09 Dec Why Who You Work With Matters
When it comes to business, the rule for working with anyone is like, know, trust. Particularly when you’re outsourcing. You want to find a company run by people you like, you know well, and you trust with your business tasks, data and reputation.
As VAs, we understand just how important that is for you to know us, what matters to us, and to understand who will actually be doing your work. Because there’s not just one person in the Starfish Admin team. In fact, we use a mix of permanent employees and sub-contractors to give you access to all the skills you need. And beyond that, we’ve worked hard to create a network of very specific types of people – that you probably won’t find in other VA companies. And rather than just hide behind a ‘meet the team’ style page, we wanted to be open about the kinds of people you will find working under the Starfish Admin banner.
Long Term Health Conditions
As you may (or may not) know by now, founder Jules has spent most of her life working in healthcare, either in the NHS or for private ambulance firms. So she understands the challenges that come with holding down a full-time job with a health condition. And as a sufferer of long term challenging health issues herself, she knows that there are plenty of people out there with a lot of amazing knowledge and skills, but who simply can’t cope with working in an office full time, 5 days a week.
Many of our employees or sub-contractors are in this group. People with long term of chronic health conditions, who’s condition doesn’t affect their work at all, but does mean they need to be flexible. Being a VA is perfect for them, as it means they can do their work at home, within their own accommodation’s, and around their commitments, whether that’s physio or hospital visits. We love having people in this category on board, as they provide some amazingly high-quality work for us and our clients, and they feel happy and satisfied in a role with control over their own time and needs.
Stay At Home Parents
If you’ve ever been, or known a stay-at-home-parent, then you know how challenging it can be. There are a lot of things to juggle, a lot of things that come up last minute, and it often means your available time falls at odd hours. Because of this, a staggering amount of stay-at-home parents either don’t go back to work, or go down to part-time hours so that they can balance home and family commitments. Again, these people are often highly talented and great at what they do – they just need the flexibility to keep their home and their work life running.
One of the great things about being a VA is that it’s very flexible. There’s not a lot of specialist equipment needed (most of the time it’s just a computer and an internet connection), so it can be done at any time, from anywhere. This makes it the perfect fit for parents who can’t be at a desk at 9am because they have to take the kids to school – but they can sit down after the school run, or once the kids are in bed. So many of our sub-contractors and employees are stay-at-home parents, or have little ones that need to be factored into their day. They have a wide variety of skills they can bring to your business, and you’d never know they were at home with the kids rather than in our offices.
So there you have it – a glimpse into the genetic makeup of Starfish Admin Services. We are very proud of the unique way we’ve chosen to build our company, and we hope you see the benefits as much as we do. And if you’re a business owner who sees the benefit in what we do, who we are and how we do it, then we would love to talk! Just drop us a line to arrange your (virtual) cup of coffee and a chat.
